My story

A quest to achieve balance between life's have-to-do's and love-to-do's.

Our passions and interests bring meaning to our lives, energy to our spirit, and fulfillment to our soul – but they don’t always bring the kids to sports practice, deliver the work report by the Friday deadline, or keep the laundry moving at home!  At least my passion for quilting, sewing and knitting doesn’t get nearly the time I’d like due to “life commitments” – so over the years, I carved out small pockets of time when the ‘house is asleep’ to pursue my passion – and The Late Night Stitchery came into existence!

The Late Night Stitchery is where I find an hour or so a few evenings a week, usually after everyone in my home is in bed and my day-job work is done, to design, sew, knit and quilt. Being a “maker” and producing a hand-made item for someone brings me such joy – while I feel accomplished from contributions in my current career, I get true joy from making quilts that keep friends and family warm on a cold night, tote bags that put a pep in someone’s step, pillows that make a house feel like a home, and sewing all sorts of other “small makes” for everyone! 

Sewing in the late night hours fits with my night-owl nature and having time to pursue my passion supports my mental health. My sewing space at home isn’t large but has just what I need (see picture above – pegboard installed courtesy of my wonderful husband, with pom-poms gifted by my two boys) so it’s very special to me – my sewing space is my “happy place” for sure! I hope you enjoy the items from The Late Night Stitchery and that they bring you just as much joy as went into making them!
